However, the evidence can no longer be ignored: today, theeffectiveness of these invaluable tools is at risk. We mustact quickly if we are to avoid losing the benefits brought bydecades of medical progress in the very near future. Only thedemonstration of long-term political commitment by all, and acoordinated, multi-sectoral effort to establish national controlplans for antimicrobial resistance, will enable us to reachthis goal. The OIE’s new dedicated strategy, set out in this issue of the Bulletin, seeks to support thisinternational effort.
