The use of Laser Tracker equipment is trending up in the industry. However, that kind of instruments are usually controlled by applying basic quality procedures. For this reason, it is necessary to standardize the verification procedures to certify the quality of the measurement equipment and to verify that the measurements performed with that equipment meet the manufacturer’s specifications.Currently ASME B89.4.19-2006, VDI/VDE 2617 Part 10 (2011) and ISO 10360-10:2016 standards provide a mean to verify compliance with manufacturer’s specifications, but they do not provide metrological traceability of the measurements performed with the equipment, mainly due to the difficulty of having both a certified materialized standard and an adequate procedure that guarantees reproducibility and repeatability.The Centro Espa?ol de Metrología (CEM) is performing different tests with length standards and metrological reliable procedures, which could be used for Laser Tracker equipment calibration to provide traceability to the measurements performed with it.In order to design a calibration procedure and a methodology that allows the assessment of the uncertainties in the future, an analysis of factors extrinsic to the equipment and the patterns, that affect the measurements is performed as well as an analysis of the misalignments that appear referenced to the axes of the equipment. In addition, a verification of the procedures has been carried out. Finally, after the data analysis a specific standard bar was chosen as the most adequate to this purpose.In summary, it is necessary to establish an automatized measurement process for the Laser Tracker equipment that keeps isolated the work area during the process. This might mitigate the vibrations that could induce variations in the measurements, also considering the elasticity of the soil.
