The percentage of hospital-employed physicians hasincreased dramatically over the past 16 years. In 2003, 40% ofphysicians working at hospitals were independent.1 By 2012,42% of physicians were employed by hospitals and another 38%had a contractual relationship with a hospital.1 Fewer than one infive physicians were independent.
