Neuronal Ensemble Coding of Spike Trains in the Hippocampus CA3 via Small-world Network

—The Hindmarsh-Rose (HR) model could describedifferent discharge property of an excitatory or inhibitoryneuron by changing the parameter r. In this paper, HRmodel is used to be the dynamical equations of the spikingmodel neurons, and different neurons in one neuronalpopulation are connected with WS small-world network. Aneurons spiking model in the hippocampus CA3 based onsmall-world network is established on the Matlab platform.Spike trains of the neurons spiking model are simulatedwhen no stimulus and a pulse current acted on the model.Then rate coding and synchrony coding are used to analyzethe simulated spiking trains. Experiment results indicatewhen no stimulus acts on the neurons spiking model, thespike firing of hippocampus CA3 is sparse. When a stimulusacts on the neurons spiking model, the mean populationfiring rate increased obviously. The increasing of neuronsfiring rate could present the ensemble activities, whichhighly correlate with memory.
