Recently, Cheng et al. proposed a novel biometric-based remote userauthentication scheme using quadratic residues. Cheng et al. claimedthat their proposed scheme is secure, practical, and trustworthy remoteauthentication, which can be implemented on di erent real network en-vironments. However, this paper points out that Cheng et al.'s schemenot only su ers from stolen smart card attack and server spoo ng at-tack, but also does not provide forward secrecy.
