In this study, the effect of residual stress on the stress corrosion cracking behavior of welded Ti-6Al-4Valloy was investigated by means of electrochemical noise. The residual stress is effectively relaxed bylocal rapid induction heating, and the higher heat treatment temperature leads to lower residual stress. The residual stress has a significant effect on the mechanical properties and sensitivity of stress corrosioncracking under the slow strain rate tensile test, which respectively increases and decreases continuouslywith the gradual relaxation of residual stress. The results indicate that a sample with lower residual stressshows higher corrosion resistance and later occurrence time of localized corrosion during the slow strainrate tensile test. The relaxation of residual stress significantly inhibits the stress corrosion crackingprocess..
