Considering the not well-insulated dielectric fluid in High-Speed Wire-Electrical-Discharge-Machining (HSWEDM), the equivalent electrical model of the discharge gap of HSWEDM in open circuit, normal discharge and short circuit is established and simulated. A prototype of no-resistance power-electronic-based buck-type pulse power supply is tested on a commercial HSWEDM machine. The experimental verification shows that the proposed electrical model can predict the gap conditions in real machining, and assist the discharge current and discharge energy control.
