The Air Force has kick-started a new data and artificial intelligence initiative and is working to develop a new minimum viable product as officials look to support a department-wide AI effort, according to the service's chief architect.The Air Force's push, which would cover it and the Space Force, seeks to bolster the Defense Department's 11 combatant commanders in quickly implementing AI capabilities. The work stems from last month's unveiling of the department's AI and Data Acceleration initiative, which officials previously said would first focus on directing data "reinforcements" to combatant commands."We're pushing that hard," Preston Dunlap said of the service's "data and AI initiative" during an online roundtable event with reporters yesterday.Tied to that, Dunlap said the service is looking to deploy its new minimum viable product "hopefully in the next event," though he didn't provide details on that timeline."It's something that we want to get after and push, and I think our role in that is to operationalize AI as much as possible, which means a lot of investments in infrastructure, data and so on," he said.
