COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall today announced a significant reorganization of the service's space acquisition directorate that will create a new Space Force acquisition and integration office, adding that he's working through a short list of candidates to recommend for the new Space Force acquisition executive role. Kendall also announced a plan to begin transitioning the Space Development Agency into the Space Force, telling an audience at the Space Symposium here he is working with Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Heidi Shyu to develop a working group to help with that transition. Kendall said he expects an announcement on a nominee for the Space Force acquisition executive role "in the not-too-distant future" and said he is hopeful Congress will give the service authority to fill the position before October of next year - a date set in the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act.
