The Pentagon is working with the White House and Small Business Administration to streamline the process for small businesses to enter the federal contracting process, Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks said Wednesday. The Defense Department is publishing a Federal Register notice this week seeking information from industry on the "barriers" contractors face and will incorporate that input into DOD's small business strategy, which will be announced before the end of this year, Hicks said during her keynote at the 30th Annual Pennsylvania Showcase on Commerce. "I realize that doing business with the DOD is not always easy," she said. "Because of our unique security requirements and procurement practices, we can be a challenging customer. But we are committed to examining the administrative barriers that small businesses face in working with us. And we will take meaningful action to remove barriers where we can."
