Learning-path types, motives and strategies: an analysis of empirical research in occupations in The Netherlands

摘要

While some learning-path clusters were found in all of the occupations, some were only found in specific occupations. This showed that while learning paths may be related to an individual in terms of motive, they are also related to the individual organizational context. Traditional professional development learning paths predetermined for employees by managers and HRD professionals may no longer be as successful. They will be more effective if they align training and development programs to individual employees and their strategic needs. The 12 clusters identified in this research may help HRD managers to better understand the learning needs of both the organization and the individuals within it.
