For organizational development, decision makers must understand organizational processes, and how process change will affect the organization. Modeling's benefits for understanding is well established (Moormann et al., 2011), but managers may feel these methods are difficult to implement. However, computer based simulations give managers accurate results with relatively little training. Using simulations, managers can learn more about their organizations, and use this knowledge to for organizational improvements. Also, these simulations help managers focus on organizational characteristics most important for improvements. This lens aids in choosing which outcomes must be prioritized for organizational enhancements. As such, modeling itself improves organizational learning and development (Meadows, 2008; Railsback and Grimm, 2011).
