That old proverb "nothing succeeds like success" sounds to modern ears uncomfortably like the platitude of a motivational speaker. Nevertheless, no one would dispute that success can breed further success, and all businesses can benefit from observing the practices of other organizations. However, failures can offer important lessons also. Organizations that fail to generate adequate lessons or clues from their own and others' failures are likely to repeat them. But organizational failure creates many opportunities for those who are willing to learn, not least because of the human talent and expertise that suddenly becomes available. In this context, it is important for would-be employers to remember that it is the redundant organization that has failed, not the individuals who now find themselves on the jobs market.
