Steve Nadis profiled scientist-artist Joe Davis and his portfolio of work in the April issue (page 52). "A Scientific Method to His Madness" is weirdly wonderful. I want to join the Joe Davis Fan Club, not because of his unusual style, but because the treatment of it is refreshing in these times of herd-following, "don't rock the boat" official science. In "Trait vs. Fate" (May issue, page 48), Dan Hurley explains how our ancestors' lives - be they rough or privileged - might be reflected in our genetics. Very good article and explanation of the mechanics of epigenetics chemistry. I did wish there was not so much emphasis on mothering, which seems like a throwback to a bad time when all childhood problems were blamed on the mother.
