A recently released set of U.S. science education standards presents learning expectations for students, kindergarten through 12th grade. Each of the 200 standards addresses a concept in science, technology, engineering or math for a particular grade level. A standard doesn't tell teachers how to teach; it provides a three-part framework to help create lesson plans catered to their classrooms. First, lessons should engage students in the kinds of practices that scientists and engineers use to investigate the world, develop theories, build models and design systems.
