Michael tennesen writes this month about unique rain forests that rely on fog, not rain, to survive ("Fog Forests," page 60). A Los Angeles-based journalist, he regularly trades the comforts of home for life in the jungle, where he sleeps in a hammock for weeks at a time.rn"The fog in the Amazon looks like the fog in the redwood forests near San Francisco," says Tennesen, who has been reporting on the Amazon for the past 10 years. "It's thick, and you have to stop driving before you run into something, but at the same time, fog is beautiful, evocative, and ethereal."
