Joshua scott is a photographer based in New York City. In his work he often combines ordinary objects in fanciful ways, something he began doing in college when he manipulated images in Photoshop to build imaginary cities. Nowadays he specializes in photographing high-tech gadgets for magazines. In his roomy fourth-floor studio, Scott shot our cover picture rnof a molecule of glucose, an interpretive model assembled by DISCOVER staffers using the red, black, and white balls from a high school chemistry kit. That model evokes the ways jn which new biological discoveries are forcing us to rethink old ideas about the chemistry of life.
