Laurie David ("The Next Step," page 26) introduces our Better Planet Issue by describing how she became a climate activist. Her motto is simple: "Don't expect everyone to do everything, but expect everyone to do something." For instance, David carries water around in an aluminum canteen and uses a reusable tote bag for groceries. "People say that living green is a fad, but it's not. It's going to be a way of life," she says. David was a producer of the documentary An Inconvenient Truth and founded the Web site StopGlobalWarming.org. Her next audience: kids. "They are the next army of environmentalists," she says. Her latest book, The Down-to-Earth Guide to Global Warming, will help children make ecologically informed choices.
