I can hardly believe another year has flown past but, as is customary, I want to take this opportunity to review significant events during 2012 and their ongoing impact. The early 2012 issues of DPC contained themes that were to reverberate throughout the year and are still being debated: the Harbour Maintenance Trust Fund (HMTF) battle in the US; the Panama Canal expansion; the growth of interest in African ports; India's heady ambitions for port expansion; and the drive offshore by Europe's major dredging contractors.
