The Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter 1972, also known as the London Convention, was an early global attempt to protect the marine environment from human activity. To celebrate 40 years since its adoption, parties to the convention met at the IMO's London headquarters for five days of meetings from 29 October to 2 November (see Anna Csiti's report on page 5).
