A major regeneration of Liverpool's shipping facilities is in the pipeline - a development that's been welcomed by a city in which the regional maritime industry employs 28,000 people and has a yearly turnover of around £2.6Bn ($3.7Bn).rnThe port's regeneration includes development of a £1OOM post-Panamax box terminal on the River Mersey,rnwhich will require the main channel to be deepened by between 4m and 6m. The new facilities will double Liverpool's container capacity from 800,000teu to 1.6M teu.
