摘要

Plans to redevelop the US Port of Gulfport, Mississippi, remain on track despite a lawsuit filed in December by civil rights groups that feel the funds destined for the project would be better used to develop low-cost housing. "It's somewhat surprising that they would file a lawsuit, but at the same time, we're moving forward," said Lee Youngblood, spokesman for the Mississippi Development Authority, who added that the state has dedicated $700M to low income construction projects. The state says the federal government approved the use of $600M of the $5.4Bn Hurricane Katrina recovery fund to redevelop the port, which was virtually destroyed.
