At the heart of the project are new lock complexes capable of accommodating 366m-long, 49m-wide, 12,000teu box ships with a maximum draught of 15mrnFor comparison, the largest vessels that can transit the existing canal - dubbed 'Panamax' - are 294m-long, 32m-wide, 4,500teu container ships with a 12m draught.
