摘要

Oil and gas fields in carbonate formations contain significant reserves of natural hydrocarbons. However, specifics of their geological structure complicate the development of such fields. Carbonate reservoirs are quite often characterized by a dual porosity (fractured-porous or fractured-cav-ernous-porous) structure. This implies that low-permeability porous rock matrix is dissected into blocks by a developed system of communicating fractures and cavities. Here, porous blocks contain primary oil and gas reserves. Conversely, intercommunicating fractures and cavities provide major flow paths for fluids. Terrigenous formations also correspond to a dual porosity type in several cases.
