Helmut Krawinkler, John A. Blume Professor Emeritus in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, a long-time member of the Editorial Board of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics, and the guest editor for this Special Issue on 'Seismic Damage and Loss Assessment in Buildings', died after a short illness on April 16, 2012, a few days after his 72nd birthday.
