摘要

A breakthrough in nanotechnology research could result in electric cars that are powered by their own body panels. Electric vehicles rely on lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for propulsion. Researchers at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia are looking to change that using lightweight, graphene-based supercapacitors. The discovery was made by Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr. Jinzhang Liu, Professor Nunzio Motta, and PhD researcher Marco Notarianni from QUT's Science and Engineering Faculty, and PhD researcher Francesca Mirri and Professor Matteo Pasquali, from Rice University in Houston. Electric car companies are still working on improving the capacity of Li-ion batteries, but if QUT researchers have anything to do with it, Li-ion batteries in electric vehicles may soon be a thing of the past. The researchers are confident this new technology could dramatically boost the power and range of all-electric vehicles, blowing Li-ion batteries out of the picture completely.
