In this two-part series, ECN takes a look at several new develop-ment boards and books aimed at embedded-system developers. 2.4 GHz ZigBee Development Kit (ZigBee-2.4-DK), Silicon Laboratories, Austin, TX. Price: $950. www.silabs.com/zigbee. This kit aims to demonstrate the operation of a six-station ZigBee network, and it succeeds quite nicely. Without much work, I set up a network to measure temperatures in my office, in my lab, and outdoors. The kit includes six battery-powered ZigBee development boards, cables, and a debug adapter. You even get stickers to label the boards. The printed Development Kit User's Guide led me to AN240, the 2.4 GHz ZigBee Demonstration User's. Guide on the accompanying CD-ROM. This 18-page document clearly explained how to configure each board and how to establish a network topology.
