Selecting the best interconnect and terminal block has become a process that requires that the component engineer specify the correct type of connection device for the application. It is equally important to know in which types of environments the interconnect device will be used. With the emphasis on the need to reduce board size, the selection process becomes even harder. Additional questions, such as, "Is the application going to be field-wired or factory wired?" "How much current will the interconnect be required to handle?" "Will the connection need to be easily disconnected for board repair or replacement?" "What wire size (AWG) will be needed?" "How important is cost?" All of these factors and more go into choosing the right interconnection or terminal block. In many cases, connectivity can be the single most expensive component in a design, so making the right selection choice from the start will insure success.
