The initial successes of direct seeding in the Central West of New South Wales (NSW) in the early 1990s, for example, as demonstrated by a visiting team from Primary Industries South Australia (SA), have not been repeated on a regular basis. Among the possible reasons for its perceived unreliability in the Central West are: prolonged dry periods since 1990, lack of a defined winter wet season, limited understanding of soil properties and unlike Victoria and SA, a lack of advisory packages backed up by local research or well-documented observations.
