Taiwan is the only place in Asia where you will find a captivating blend of modern technology; world-class infrastructure; incredibly diverse and spectacular landscapes, comprising beaches, rivers, lakes, gorges and the world's greatest density of mountains, including 268 peaks above 3,000 metres in an island slightly bigger than Belgium; a culture that straddles the Chinese and the Western worlds; a thriving democracy; and an intellectual, dynamic, entrepreneurial population that parties as hard as it works. Taiwan's ability to balance these competing socio-economic elements wins it many different accolades. For instance, Buzzfeed, an online news site, reckons that Taipei is "Asia's most laidback capital city". Meanwhile, Lifestyle9, another online news site, ranked Taiwan second in the world in terms of safety. These are just some of the reasons why Taiwan is today regarded as the global leader in the MICE industry. Indeed, the perception of Taiwan's place in the world has evolved rapidly from an engineering hub where techies meet to a premier global destination where corporate chiefs like to congregate.
