Zhang Gaoli, 66, another economist, now on the seven-man Politburo standing committee (PBSC) that runs China. As party chief of Tianjin, a municipality of 14m people, he oversaw grand investment plans, but now warns of the dangers of excess capacity and financial risk. Wang Qishan, 64, former financial supremo, also on the pbsc. Now China's chief corruption-buster, he has led a clampdown on trading abuses in the bond market. Lou Jiwei, 62, finance minister. A computer-scientist and economist, he was formerly head of CIC, the country's $500-billion sovereign-wealth fund. Well known outside China, he championed tax reform in the 1990s and supports financial liberalisation.
