The Statue Of Robert the Bruce has been spruced up. A new museum is under way at the site of the Battle of Bannockburn, in a suburb of Stirling. It willopen next summer, in time for the 700th anniversary of the battle (which Bruce won and the English lost). Just a few months later, notcoinci-dentally, Scotland will be invited to vote on independence. Many Scots, including many nationalists, cringe at the evocations of ancient battles against the wicked English, and think "Braveheart" a silly film.
