In this increasingly complex and uncertain global business environment, only companies with the most innovative, forward-looking and sustainable people practices will succeed in Asia, where the war for talent is getting fiercer everyday, given the region's relentless rise up corporate agendas. Leading the pack are HCL Technologies and Manila Water, who have just won this year's Asian Human Capital Award, which were given out at the Singapore Human Capital Summit 2011. The prestigious award, co-sponsored by the Singapore Ministry of Manpower, INSEAD and CNBC Asia Pacific, recognises and celebrates the best human capital practices that have positively influenced businesses' growth in the region. The two winners "recognise the potential of human capital in creating innovative and sustainable competitive advantage," says Professor Narayan Pant, one of the judges for the award. In addition, Unilever Asia won a Special Commendation Prize. Together, these three companies represent the creme de la creme of employers in Asia. HCL's success proves the value of placing the employee at the centre of a corporate strategy. This is best illustrated through HCL's unconventional management philosophy, "Employees first, Customers Second" (EFCS), which recognises employees as strategic elements of an organisation and democratises the company's functions and its way of working.
