At last the Southern African Development Community (sadc), an influential club of 15 countries that has overseen the regional diplomacy intended to solve Zimbabwe's troubles, is showing signs that it may be prepared to squeeze President Robert Mugabe a bit harder. As the supposed guarantor of a power-sharing pact between Mr Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangi-rai, the former opposition leader, sadc has-after months of dithering-ordered all "outstanding issues" to be settled by December 5th.
