After successful presidential and parliamentary elections earlier this year, Haiti is at last beginning to look more like a proper democracy. Security on the streets is much improved and local businesses have begun to recover from the near anarchy that reigned for two years after President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was ousted in 2004. It has been a long time since Haiti had a president, a full parliament and a prime minister all at the same time. Now, under the leadership of President Rene Preval and his prime minister, Jacques-Ed-ouard Alexis, the country should be able to move forward.
