The Tunisian government usually seems to go out of its way to make the country look dull: after all, it is fairly stable and prosperous compared with most of its neighbours. It is also a staunch ally of the West in the global war on terrorism, so the Americans and Europeans are prone to overlook Tunisia's well-documented human-rights shortcomings, despite the protestations of such outfits as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Yet a group of Tunisians drawn from various strands of opposition are taking a rare chance to make a fuss ahead of the un's "world summit on the information society" being held in Tunis next week.
