摘要

The annual jamboree of Nasscom, the lobby for Indian information-technology (IT) and services firms held in Mumbai this week, has for years been a forum for self-congratulation. Whatever other ills may plague India, its software and, more recently, "outsourcing" firms―call centres, back-office processing, technical support and the like―are an unfairing source of pride, able to take on the best in the world. They also make up the fastest-growing segment of what is now a booming economy. Hence this year's dismay about what is seen as an American effort to change the rules of the one game India is winning.
