摘要

It was never realistic to hope that the report of the Commons foreign affairs select committee would settle the row over the government's use of intelligence material in the months leading up to war with Iraq. And, as expected, it didn't. Alastair Campbell, the head of government communications, was cleared of the BBC'S allegation that he had "sexed up" the first, substantial, dossier on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. But only sort of. Unfortunately for Mr Campbell, the committee divided on party lines, five of its members saying they didn't have enough information to resolve the issue.
