He was on his way to a Sunday football match with his teenage son when a youth shot him dead. Manuel Gimenez Abad was a regional leader of Spain's governing People's Party (pp) in Aragon. But his murder, a week before the Basques were to elect a new regional parliament on May 13th, was plainly the work of the Basque separatist terror group eta.
