Dan Frayssinet and Paul Ricard are the "D" and "P" behind DP Technology, the parent company of ESPRIT CAM software. Over the course of nearly four decades, DP has blossomed into a well-respected industry leader from perhaps the humblest of humble beginnings. Both Dan and Paul were born, raised and educated in France, where they each studied engineering. Although the two partners share a home country, their paths didn't cross until they worked together at a Chicago-based industrial automation company in the early 1980s. The young engineers became fast friends and set their sights on establishing their own business-this time in sunny Southern California. DP Technology Corp. originally had a division called International Manufacturing Software, or IMS. Beginning in 1984, IMS developed PC-based CAM systems for the machine tools of the day. Dan and Paul's first "office" was a phone booth in the parking lot of a Carl's Jr. fast-food restaurant, where the two made and received phone calls from their first clients and partners.
