I don't think many people understand what is actually inside a U-V head, and how it works. I will give you an overview of what is inside the U-V head, focusing on the mechanical part. The head I'm using for this discussion is from a 1984 AGIE AC100. Maybe after reading this you can understand why manufacturers have gone away from the U-V head concept due to its complexity and vulnerability to corrosion damage. The head is very heavy so be careful when you remove it.
