Bill's goal was to begin to make headway in sales and market share against Mitsubishi's mostly European competition. Rapid technological developments brought advances in technology such as higher speeds, submerged cutting, and automatic threading. In those heady days, it was not unusual for a new machine to double the speeds of its predecessor. Implementing his philosophy that establishing relationships with customers (in addition to documented machine performance and reliability) was Job#l, Bill capitalized on the fact that satisfied customers make a machine builder's best salesmen.
