CO_2 A colorless, odorless, inert gas, CO_2 is one of the most effective fire extinguishing agents available. It is especially effective at suppressing flammable liquid fires and electrically energized fires. It is most commonly used today to protect equipment and assets in industrial applications.CO_2 extinguishes fires by reducing the oxygen content of the protected area below the point where it can support combustion. It is also extremely cold and helps reduce a fire's heat to some degree.
