While some folks may use them to gap spark plugs, a set of feeler gages can be very useful in the EDM room. I use mine most often to set my upper flush cup clearance. This critical flushing parameter needs to be accurately set to assure predictable machine performance. Feeler gages also come in handy for measuring small slot widths in both Wire and Sinker applications. They are also useful for both measuring gaps and as shims in both machine and inspection setups. Feeler gage tip: Feeler gages are normally assembled and graduated from the thinnest (in the case of my set .0015) to thickest. Because the .0015 blade is so fragile, I take the largest blade from the opposite end of the set and put it outboard of the .0015 blade to help protect it when the feeler gage set is in use.
