Because of the type of work we do, quite often we find ourselves cutting "tall" work pieces. For us, 6" is a short part, and we commonly cut 8", 12" and even 14", all while attempting to hold +/- .0001 tolerance and achieve a 4Ra finish. We have found that, oftentimes, such "tall" parts will measure within the tolerance along their entire length, but will have a bend or bow. [Editor's note: This bow is caused by the release of residual stress when the part is cut off from the tab that holds it to the blank.] Recently, I found a way to virtually eliminate this bow.
