摘要

Presently, the success rate of lightning protection is about 50% and one of the main reasons is the lack of effective protection against multiple superimposed lightning strikes. Superimposed lightning event is very likely to occur during lightning strikes. This paper reflects the research and practice on the protection of superimposed lightning, based on the solid-phase arc-extinguishing principle, using a lightning arc to trigger a strong jet electronegative gas-flow. And then a power frequency arc is extinguished through an empty cavity effect. It can be used to suppress one or more arc processes of working frequency. The protective effect and effectiveness of solid-phase arc-extinguishing device on ps-level lightning return stroke and ms-level repeated lightning strikes have been shown through engineering practices and simulations in FLUENT software.
