In a classic Tesla coil, a magnifying transmitter or any other electrically resonant system, we have an essential electrical device called a resonator. It is the key to the operation of any resonant system. All other components revolve around it. In the electrical systems under study, the resonator consists of an electrically conducting coil. It is the nature of such a helix to trap properly timed pulses of electrical energy. Every coil of wire has a resonant frequency that is determined by a number of factors; mainly its self-inductance and its self-capacitance.
