Gas-insulated transmission lines (GIL) of the 2~nd generation offer the possibility to transmit high energy ratings over long distances to be laid underground. Because of the reduction of the investment cost of more than 50/100 compared with the GIL of the 1~st generation, the necessary ecological assumption is now fulfilled. The results of the redesign are explained in this contribution.
