As the US power grid attempts to accommo date less predictable solar- and wind-based energy sources, the grid's speed becomes key to balancing fuel burning power sources with renewable sources. Unfortu nately, the power grid is not getting smarter fast enough, according to a recent report on NPR from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Energy Institute (Reference 1).
