摘要

As transmission grid assets are being pushed more and more towards their limits, the use of WAM systems to supervise and maintain high voltage grid stability has won significant attention. The aim of this article was to show the feasibility of WAM systems. First, it proved the advantages of WAMS over the conventional SCADA/EMS systems by using dynamic measurement data from PMUs. PMU implementation, PMU Placement techniques and a number of power system applications concerning monitoring, protection emergence control were subsequently discussed. Frequency instability assessment, voltage instability assessment were also covered. It is virtually established that Wide Area Monitoring extends the capability of existing local monitoring, protection and control equipment to further levels of asset utilization.
